Medical Complication Insurance & Patient Protection

Helping international patients travel for treatment with greater clarity, preparation and peace of mind.

Prepared. Informed. Supported.

Travelling abroad for medical treatment involves more than choosing a hospital and arranging an appointment. International patients should also understand what may happen if an unexpected complication occurs during or after a medical procedure.

Medical Complication Insurance is a specialist insurance product that may provide financial protection for certain eligible complications following specified medical procedures, subject to the terms, limits, eligibility requirements and exclusions of the selected policy.

What Is Medical Complication Insurance?

Every medical or surgical procedure has potential risks. Even when treatment has been carefully planned and appropriately performed, an unexpected complication may sometimes require additional medical evaluation, treatment, hospitalization or a revision procedure.

Medical Complication Insurance is designed to provide additional financial protection for certain eligible complications related to an insured medical procedure.

It is not unlimited health insurance and it is not the same as medical malpractice insurance.

Why Consider Medical Complication Insurance?

An international patient may face additional practical challenges if an unexpected complication occurs after treatment. These may include:

Additional medical examinations
New diagnostic tests
Additional hospital treatment
Extended hospitalization
Medication
Medically necessary revision procedures
Extended stay in Türkiye
Returning to Türkiye after going home
Additional travel or accommodation costs

Whether any of these costs are covered depends entirely on the selected insurance policy.

Depending on the Policy, Coverage May Include

Treatment of an eligible post-procedure complication
Medically necessary revision procedures
Additional hospitalization
Diagnostic examinations related to the insured complication
Certain additional medical procedures
Eligible medication or treatment costs
Follow-up treatment connected to an insured event
Certain travel or accommodation expenses where specifically included in the policy

Coverage differs between policies and insurance providers. Patients must always review the exact policy wording before treatment.

What May Not Be Covered?

Exclusions may include:

Pre-existing medical conditions
Undeclared medical procedures
Procedures specifically excluded from the policy
Medical problems unrelated to the insured treatment
Events occurring outside the insured period
Treatment outside the permitted geographical area
Costs above the policy coverage limit
Cosmetic dissatisfaction without a medically defined complication
Certain high-risk procedures
Other insurer-specific exclusions

Never assume that every complication is automatically covered.

Questions to Ask Before Your Procedure

Use this checklist when reviewing any policy with your insurer or intermediary.

Ask your insurer or authorised intermediary to confirm this in writing before your procedure.

Medical Insurance

Travelling to Türkiye for Tourism or Business?

Travel Health Insurance is different from Medical Complication Insurance. It is generally designed to provide protection against certain unexpected illnesses, accidents and medical emergencies occurring during a temporary visit to Türkiye.

It may be relevant for:

  • Tourists
  • Business travellers
  • Conference visitors
  • Family visitors
  • Other temporary international visitors

Depending on the selected policy, coverage may include:

  • Unexpected emergency medical treatment
  • Accident-related treatment
  • Emergency outpatient or inpatient care
  • Ambulance or medical transportation
  • Repatriation or assistance services where included

Travel Health Insurance should not automatically be assumed to cover planned medical treatment, elective procedures, routine check-ups, pre-existing conditions or complications arising from planned treatment.

Already Visiting Türkiye?

If you are already travelling to Türkiye for tourism, business or another purpose, you can also request a preventive Check-Up during your stay.

Travel Health Insurance and a planned Check-Up are separate services.

Visitors travelling through Turquaz Travel, another travel agency or independently can request Check-Up coordination.
